Dallas Mavericks forward Shawn Marion, a Waukegan native, owns a town house nearby that he bought in mid-2004 for $985,000, while Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson paid $1.32 million in late 2010 for a town house.

Music City Center Sees Return Of Major Tourism Convention

The meeting is expected to bring 3,500 attendees, and while it will be the sixth time the meeting has come to Nashville, Butch Spyridon , president and CEO of the Nashville Convention and Visitors Corp., credits the new Music City Center for its return this year. “They will always talk to us, but with anything there can be fatigue,” said Spyridon. “Having the webpage fresh angle was attractive to both of us, and January was attractive.” In years past, the convention had been held at Opryland, as meeting space at the old convention center site was too small and there weren’t enough hotel rooms downtown. “Opryland has done a terrific job every time,” said Spyridon. “The trigger for the sixth time was a kind of a completely new experience.” The convention, last held here in 2006, is one of the more expensive conventions to host, but its an important one for the visitors corp. and the city’s hospitality industry.

Don Forst, Veteran New York Journalist, Dies At 81 Following A 50-year Career
